I thought I should introduce myself to the list. My name is Brian
Williams. I am sure a few people know me from aroid-L. I collect just
about any aroid but have been interested in Arisaema arums biarums and
others for sometime. I am very curious which can grow here easily and
which I will have to tend to more often.
I live in Louisville KY zone6. My family owns a nursery which I work
at. We currently expanded 5 acres and I now have a sloping area leading
to a creek in a wooded area to put in beds for hardy aroids and other
plants. We also have a cold greenhouse which is not heated but would be
considered a zone7. Another greenhouse 60ftX60ft that gets to about 55f
in winter. As well as my personal greenhouse which is 80ft long 30ft
wide and 22ft tall which stays above 65f.. Both greenhouses which are
completely packed with tropicals.
I am very much interested in trading plants though my collection of
Arisaema is very poor at the moment. I plant to order bulbs from china.
I do how ever have many other hardy aroids and non hardy ones.
I am very interested in hybrids of these and other aroids and have done
a few Alocasia crosses. Also this year I discovered a patch of wild
arisaema at our lake house at rough river. Not like many of the more
common ones found in the woods around my house the name which excapes me
at the moment. While collecting seeds and a few bulbs I noticed around 3
to 4 different stem forms all variations of the same species I believe.
One which was very striking had purple stems with dark blotches. Does
anyone off hand know what forms grow in KY? Or surrounding areas? THANKS
look forward to being part of the list.
