Re legionnaires disease--legionnellosis. The problem is not washing hand=s,
etc. It is airborne, and tends to grow in stagnant water, etc. Potting
soils (so-called) are often laced with water inside the plastic bags the
product is sold in, and when the bag is opened, moisture bearing the
bacteria rises into the air. One should be careful when mixing, or siftin=g
these products, especially if they are moist, and have not sat in the sun
for a while to dry out.
One doesn't have to be fatalistic. Simple precautions that do not disrup=t
one's
lifestyle are sufficient. Keep your nose and mouth away from where you'r=e
mixing.. If one has asthma or other breathing problems an ordinary paper
mask from Ace Hardware or similar store should be more than sufficient nd
will protect against other pathogens. A fungal lung infection is no fun
either.
