Thanks, Pascal. I think that this is a long overdue and very worthwhile
discussion. The idea of clonal dependency (which I haven't seen before)
seems more than plausible and would help explain why some clones raised from
seed might do better where the seeds germinated than the same species grown
from tubers. Are there any references on this? I am aware of it as "lore"
from individual anecdotal comments by peple working with various genera.
Here in the Chicago area (west of the lake) where winters may be wet
(usually), or dry, depending on rain of the previous fall, heavy snowmelt
or none, depending on snowfall, (very variable), growing conditions are also
profoundly affected by soil features, summer heat and rain, etc .

I am finding this year that (local) triphyllum is burgeoning.(growing in
clayey loam ), whereas tubers from upstate New York, have not come out of
the ground yet, and I'm fairly sure that the source did not treat them
roughly, so if they are stressed, I have no notion of what the stress might
be (other than being out of the ground in order to send them to me.) that
might be keeping them from appearing.

Thanks to everyone who is contributing to this discussion area. Adam
