Bonaventure. I think that the natural history of these plants needs to b=e
taken into account. From monsoonal regions I would expect them to have a
very high tolerance for water at the start of the growing season , and ve=ry
little at the end, unless they were bearing fruit (when they're a bit mor=e
tolerant). This is characteristic of a number of plants and spring bulbs.
Also cold wet conditions are favorable for the growth of Erwinia carotovo=ra
and many fungi, e.g., Botrytis. I was thinking that if the plants in
question grew well and reached maturity, that the problem may not have be=en
with the loss of protective covering of the tuber (although it could have
been), but with infection after the plant grew to adult size. It occur=s
to me to ask, how much direct sun did these plants get? My A. consanguin=eum
grew well, and wipe out but it got 6 hours of direct sun every day. I
don't know how it's doing under the snow right now,but will find out.
Adam
