Hi all,

Well, it is -11=B0F ("degrees F") out there, so I guess Indiana is still
officially in USDA cold zone 5 (winter lowest temperatures -10=B0 to
-20=B0F). there is also a 3- to 4-inch layer of new snow on the ground, =so
that will help protect plants a bit from this cold.

I have plants of AA. sazensoo, thunbergii, fargesii, candidissimum,
consanguineum, ringens, sikokianum, serratum, urashima, and kishidae in t=he
ground out in the woodland garden, if memory serves correctly. This wint=er
started off very wet in autumn, and then turned cold. The ground has bee=n
frozen since about Christmastime. Snow comer has come and gone, but at
least there is a little in place right now. It will be very interesting =to
see what comes up and blooms, or even just comes up, in spring.

I was rummaging through the Arisaema-L archives yesterday, reading up on
seed germination. In the process I came across a note on the ploidy of A.
triphyllum subspecies. It seems that A. triphyllum ssp. triphyllum is
tetraploid (2n=56) while the other subspecies of triphyllum are diploid
(2n=28). Can anyone comment on what subspecies is found native in
Indiana? I supposed it is A. triphyllum triphyllum, but am not sure.

Who has sources of the diploid subspecies of A. triphyllum? I want to tr=y
crossing with some of these Asian species and I guess they are mostly
diploids too. Is that true?

I am soaking some seeds of A. triphyllum growing in my garden, a female
plant from Gene Bush's nursery pollinated with a native central Indiana
male plant. The same Indiana triphyllum pollen did not set on thunbergii
nor on ringens last year. Could it be because of ploidy?
