This morning, Wilbert Hetterscheid wrote that he and others are
working on up-dating the International Aroid Society website,
including the species list for Arisaema. I am attaching a phylogeny
of Arisaema based in a short piece of chloroplast DNA. This comes
from an ongoing project that would not have been possible without the
help of many members of the Arisaema Enthusiast Group (some listed by
name on the attached phylogeny). I would like to thank them and at
the same time ask for possible additional species or forms to include
in the study.

Note that current sampling does not address species concepts.

The fossil record of Arisaema goes back about 10-15 million years (=Miocene Arisaema infructescences from Spokane and Denver), and many
species appear to be much younger than that.
