Hi Jai,

I have a species I am trying to identify at the moment which has
an odour which I find very hard to describe - perhaps a
chemical/rubbery smell.

Its a member of the sinarisaema - probably keys out to
formosanum but looks most like images of taiwanense. It has a
reddish brown/ burgundy spathe which becomes greenish and minimally
striped over the spathe limb.

Looking at the Guy Gusman key.
It is non-stoloniferous. Its not fruiting but all the
non-stoloniferous species are similar with this character. When leaf
unfolds the central leaflet was turned upward. (eliminaties
taiwanense).
The leaflets are not filiform at the apex ( eliminates
consanguineum).
The pseudostem is nearly the size of the petiole. (eliminates
echinatum)

Which leaves only formosanum- but the spathe limb is 4cm wide
and tube is 2cm wide .

I will have some images shortly.

Cheers,

Rob in Tasmania
