Subject: Zant seeds germinating
Mime-Version: 1.0

Hi all,
Happy Easter! Fairly nice here today after a miserable month of March.
I'm relieved to see a couple germinations from the year-old Zantedeschia
rehmannii seeds that I planted recently. I'll have a batch of seeds of Z.
aethiopica coming in a few weeks, collected (by a permit holder) in the
Amatola Mountains of the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. the seeds
were stored at room temperature in a paper envelope for about a year. I
soaked them in water for a couple of days before planting on the surface =of
a mixture of Promix and sand (2 : 1) and then covered them with a layer
(about 1 cm, or 3/8 inch) of granite chick starter grit, probably about 1=/8
inch or 3 mm in size. [1 inch = 25.4 mm]
I will be hoping for Z. pentlandii seeds in 2003. Does anyone know what
the native habitat is for Z. jucunda? My various contacts don't know
anything about it so far.
I've sent off an inquiry about the Zantedeschia literature that Ray liste=d
for us. No answers back yet from South Africa.
I can share Arnhild's enthusiasm and excitement at germinating those firs=t
seeds! It was great that you shared it with us, Arnhild.
Best regards,
