Prof. Charles Sheviak published a paper (I think in the American Orchid
Society Bulletin) in which he discusses the possibility that the members =of
the North American Cypripedium calceolus complex - C. pubescens and C.
parviflorum - may have evolved from hybrid ancestors crossing the Bering
Sea land bridge during the last ice age from Siberia, where there is much
introgression in the Eurasian calceolus from C. macranthos. He sees
morphological characteristics in the N.A. species similar to that found i=n
the far east hybrid (Cyp. ventricosum) swarm.

I wonder why the North American Arisaema triphyllum has so much
variability......
