Christopher,

Hear! Hear! You too recommend a plan and, even more important, accurate
and complete
record keeping. I just wish there was an authority to keep track as there
is for Ilex and
Rhododendron. Nina Lambert and I tracked down the origin of A. triphyllum
'Mrs. French'
and, believe me, it was not easy. In the process, we found that there are
several
white variegated strains without names that often get confused with 'Mrs.
French'.

It is interesting to see that some variations in A. triphyllum come true
from seed while others
do not. I have yet to find a "Giant" variation that wasn't more a product
of environment
than genetics. On the other hand, the selection A. triphyllum 'NLC', with
it's distinct change of spathe color
at the limb line, does come true from seed. It's even more interesting to
find that two
geographically disparate stands of the plant have been found. There must
be some
set of parameters that caused this development at two different places. I
wonder what
that might be.
