Several days ago I asked for help in identifying a plant and
forwarded a picture to  Eric Gouda for the AEG site's ID section.
Eric has kindly identified it as a A. ciliatum var. liubaense. He
tells me the whip is exceptionally long "but a very variable
character in that group". The picture did not get posted on the
AEG site after all, so for anyone who's curious I have updated
the captions on my own site at
