We have FREQUENTLY noticed quite a few species of arisaema that 'sulk' ju=st
after planting. In the most notorious example, a large tuber purchased fr=om
Heronswood did not come up for two seasons, after which we removed the ta=g.
It came up the next season and is now unidentified. We know it was not a
case of mistaken identity because it was so huge and came up in exactly t=he
spot where we had removed the tag. I have not kept exact records of which
species have behaved that way, but very often, they will not come up for =a
year, or even two. They even behave that way in pots, occasionally. We un=pot
the large tubers for winter storage and sometimes a pot that had no top
growth has a nice fat healthy tuber in it. If you are curious, just eithe=r
knock them out of the pot and have a look, or carefully excavate and see =if
you have a healthy tuber there.

Subject: Non-appearance of bulbs planted in late spring
Do newly-planted Arisaema bulbs ever sulk for a season and then come up? =I
have had only 4 out of 6 A. fargesii bulbs put up leaves, only 2 out of 4
A. candidissima come up, and zero out of ca 20 small seedling bulbs of A.
consanguineus.
When do I start to panick?
