A. fargesii help

Hi y'all,

I just discovered my fargesii tuber giving way to rot. Scraped all the soft
muck out, which left a good sized indentation at the base, and then dusted
it with Captan. Placed it into dry potting mix and put it back outside
under porch (temps have been mild).

Noticed that the growing point (what's the proper name of the protruding
part before it actually breaks ground?) has extended to about 1.5", but no
beginnings of roots. I assume this is because it know's its days are
numbered and is trying to set seed?.

Last spring I had a problem with same tuber, as it started growing before I
could get it in the ground and after I planted it the protruding part wilted
and browned up. It was not rotting at that point though, I checked.

So, is the present problem a result of the prior...or is it rotting now,
just because?

Lastly, do you think it will make it after having to shave so much off of
the bottom?

thanks in advance,
Danielle
