Dear Guy & others,
A bit of a late reply to this question but since we are discussing one of
the most stunning Arisaemas of all, it is worth sharing the results of
Pascal Bruggeman and I with this species.
First off, also Chen Yi A-62 is rhizomatum. The species starts growing in
the autumn and flowers around November. Chen Yi obviously sends the rhizo=mes
at a totally wrong time and cuts off the newly developing shoot. No way t=he
shoot is going to recover again after receiving. We found that keeping th=e
rhizome dry is the worst you can do. It goes catatonic and never recovers.
Pascal and I have found that when potted the rhizomes do produce a few ro=ots
and stay firm but cchecking regularly is necessary as the back-end of the
rhizome usually rots off partly and you need to keep it clean there by
removing the snotty stuff. Few have survived this into the next autumn an=d
started to grow but it's better than nuttin'. No flowers yet but I have a
BIG one from last years' sales emerging that looks flowering size. Don't
keep the plant too warm but not too cold either. This is an in-between on=e.
A friend of mine collected this one in N. Vietnam too and he was unable t=o
grow it in Hanoi. Too hot. His plants had the most striking DARK green
spathes with BLACK spots all over. STUNNING!!!!!!!
Cheerio,
Wilbert
