Some arisaemas go into a prolonged dormancy if they are dried. This
happens routinely with A. negishii. The only way we have been able to
overcome the problem is to plant the tubers or corms or whatever in deep
boxes with a very well-drained mix and keep them almost completely dry
until shoots emerge, usually in the spring of the second year. I don't
know what mechanism is at work here, but we have the same experience
with some Paris, Trillium, and terrestrial orchids.
