Dear Jeanne,
At risk of insulting Ray w/ my AOL trash and animals lovers I will
tell you how I solve the mole problem. Through Plant Delights, I learned=of
Permatil, small pieces of ground up shale. I get it here in my garden
stores. You dig a mote around your existing bulbs and add a little on th=e
top. The moles and voles and chipmunks won't chew through it. With new
bulbs, you mix the Permatil in the soil as you plant the bulbs. I've los=t
too many arisaema and colacasia and amorphophallus to the varmints. Perm=atil
is great to start seeds in because the tiny thread-like roots don't get
tangled in it as they do in the paper towels. I also put rat poisoning o=ut
for the chipmunks. I have no cats nor dogs. I do have a fox. Fox urine=is
sold in our garden stores to deter rabbits. I catch squirrels, which eat=my
bird seed, in a Havahart trap, Home Depot, and give the squirrels a long
drink in our pool and feed them to the fox. The fox urine is very strong=and
keeps the rabbits off of my plants. I've heard that apple will attract
rabbits to your Havahart. Cantelope will attract groundhogs. Hope that =I
was of some help.
Liz
