Ok, Nina, scare me to death. Georgia red clay is infamous around here
unless you're from Alabama, then it's Alabama red clay, or South Carolina,
then it's South Carolina red clay. I get out the rotor tiller, till the
ground for an hour; add sand, till the ground for 30 minutes; add compost,
shavings, milled sphagnum moss, leaves, etc., till the ground for an hour.
By the time I'm finished, the bed is 18 inches above the surface level and I
don't think it has a chance of becoming cement. The thought was intriguing,
though.
