OK!      I stand corrected.   What I meant to say is that I noticed no
improvement from
putting sand in the planting holes.

Thanks Jim & Andy for some really good suggestions. I never thought of
putting the
sand on top of the soil. I always thought drainage was put under the
soil. But it makes
great sense. The tubers are in the dryer sand while the roots can reach
down to
the nutrients in the soil when the plant is active.

The coarser sand Jim suggests is really course. Permatil grains are the
size of pea gravel.
I've used it to amend the hard clay here, but not in the way Jim and Andy
suggest.

It all just goes to show that if you air your disappointments (read
stupidity) on
Arisaema-L, help appears like magic.
