Paul,
Several Arisaema species grow the entire first season below ground
forming roots and tubers, but
no shoot. I think it would be advisable to cover them with starter mix or
at least chick grit.
I cover all my Arisaema seeds and have had great success. But then, I use
the Norman Deno
method of seed germination. This way, you know exactly when the root
radicle emerges. It's
fully discussed in the Arisaema-L archives. Search on "Deno".
I can send you germination rates for many species if you're interested.
