Dear Ray and other Arisaemophiles,
I would like an information. I am on Arisaema-L for some years, but I
only received something from seedex once, three years ago. Is there some
kind of subscription for the distribution? Should I ask? I still must be the
only one on the list that don't grow any Arisaema. Those I received where
lost at the second season of growing, after a very serious fungus infection
(I lost almost 80% of my tuberous aroids, including VERY rare tropical
plants). These plants seems to enjoy tropical lands, if they can have a
fridge to sleep during the dormancy. They were growing in Central Brazil, in
pots with my usual tuberous mix (Dicksonia fiber, three bark and limestone
peebles). I would like to try again, now that I am on a new house in Sao
Paulo and can grow them with more space. Please, anyone, let me know how I
can join 2001 seedex.
Thanks,
Eduardo.
P.S. By the way, have you seen the recent article concerning pollination in
Arisaema? [Vogel, S. & J.Martens (2000). A survey of the function of the
lethal kettle traps of Arisaema (Araceae), with records of pollinating
fungus gnats from Nepal. Bot. J. Linnean Soc., 133(1):61-100] You can get a
free printable copy in the site
www.idealibrary.com. It is a very nice article, mainly considering that
Arisaema is an aroid and very few is known about the pollination of aroids
in general.
