George,
My "Arisaema Log" is still in progress. Many tubers (when is it correct, by the
way, to interchange with "bulbs" or "corms") went dormant in last summer's
drought here in New Jersey and after being dug up and refridgerated 4 months
were potted up in last December. Triphyllums, taiwanense, sikokianum,
Dracunculus vulgaris, and Pinellia cordata haved bloomed or are in bloom.
Kaichen imports of the erubescens/consanguineum type have bloomed already as
well as a spectacular serratum (definitely not a subspecies of sikokianum) but
elephas/handelii/wilsonii types were more rot and sulk-susceptable.
To all members, look for an updated, annotated, version of my log. I may just
leave in some of my cryptic shorthand and choppy language for the fun of it. You
may see how the mind of an Arisaema and general nature nut works.

Subject: Your report.
Jaime,
Thanks for your report on Arisaema seedlings.
On the nomenclature problems:
>>A. flavissimum? = 6 (the label faded and I can't quite read it. I do
not know if this is a valid name,
>>but it is the closest to the scribbles that remain)
You're correct, this is not a valid Arisaema name. There are only 2 that
end in "issimum",
A. amplissimum Blume = A. serratum, and
A. candidissimum W. Smith
I strongly suspect it is the latter since AEG has distributed these and
since the former name
has not been used for many years.
>>1 unknown with no label that may be A. flavum dwarf form.
The proper name would be A. flavum ssp. abbreviatum (Schott) Murata,
assuming it is a form of flavum.
By now, you've probably deduced the rotting problems are because the
tubers were kept
too moist during dormancy. A. serratum and particularly A. sikokianum are
very sensitive
to this especially as they mature.
Thanks again for your report.
OK you AEGers. Jaime has started the ball rolling. Let's here how your
plants have
fared this winter.
