Jim:
Since I didn't take photos of this 5-leaflet arisaema, I'll have to wait
until next spring to take photos, but the fifth lobes was not a little nub.
Whatever these are, they are certainly consistent throughout entire large
populations.
Regarding variations of A. triphyllum, a friend in VA, found what he
called A. triphyllum v. atrorubens (one of the old invalid designations).
All plants in this vigorous population have narrow white leaf veins. He
has many 10-20 year old clumps in his garden and all come completely true
from seed despite growing nearby standard A. triphyllum forms. The plants
are also much more vigorous than any of his other collections. Any thoughts?
