Hi, Everyone;
I have just received the wonderful package which Ray sends to new
members of this group, and I am really impressed with the great amount of
information it contains. I see several very familiar names on the roster,
and I am very pleased to be part of this very distinguished group.
I am retired from New York Telephone Co. where I spent most of my career
converting offices to new technology and basically, working myself out of a
job.
My plant background is formally in Landscape and Forestry, but as you
can see from my e-mail address, I am a true plant nut and have tried my hand
at hybridizing
irises and daylilies. These days, I am more interested in hostas and
ornamental grasses. Arisaemas are quite new to my garden and I am hoping
that the small
seedlings which were planted out in the garden in early September, will come
through the winter. So far, A. sikokianum and candidissimum have been the
stars of the garden, but a potted consanguineum surprised and delighted me
with a nice bloom on a small plant. It is now in the ground, and I hope
that it is deep enough
since we don't have a lot of snow here most years. I'll be anxious to try
my hand at
growing some seed.
I am in zone 6 but have sneaked into 7 for the past three years. My
small garden is high above the Hudson River just 12 miles north of West
Point, so we are spared from most severe weather.
I look forward to learning all I can about these fascinating plants and
I hope that at some point, I can even add to the discussion.
