I'm sending this to both lists since I know that most of you will be
interested. I apologize to any who are not!

I just got Dan Hinkley's new book today, "The Explorer's Garden" and all I
can say is "WOW!"

Aside from being extremely well-done, with great photography, it's just
absolutely crammed with the unusual stuff that most of us woodland gardeners
drool over. He omits trilliums, since other recent publications cover that
genus thoroughly. Arisaemas are included, perhaps not in the depth that would
exist in a book devoted only to that genus, but more than sufficient for
most. The real fun is chapter after chapter on the rarer species/forms of
mostly woodland treasures, things like Deinanthe, Glaucidium, Scoliopus,
Scopolia, Epimedium, Podophyllum, Paris, Syneilesis-----well, you get the
idea. He also goes into the culture and propagation of most of what he
describes.

This is a Timber Press publication, lists for $39.95, worth every penny, but
NARGS members can undoubtedly get the usual discount from the NARGS Book
Service.

This is an exciting book.
