Has anyone else had a flowering plant from seed of "Arisaema aff.
franchetianum, PJ 257 '96 China Exp."?
I got seeds from the Nargs SeedX and have one plant, now in flower (under
lights, of course!). I'm only sure of one thing, and that's that it's not=hing
remotely resembling A. franchetianum. It has 1 leaf with 6 radiasect leaf=lets,
which presumably puts it in section Sinarisaema. The spathe petiole is
considerably longer than the leaf petiole. There are no filiform extensio=ns on
either the leaflets or the spathe.
The spathe is fairly long and narrow, green with with longitudinal stripe=s.
The appendix is sl. curved, narrow, sl. tapered at the end, and does not
extend beyond the tip of the spathe. The junction between the spadix and
appendix is smooth.
I've looked at the available keys, drawings, etc and nothing seems to fit
exactly. Could it be A. brevipes? Is it possible to accurately key out an
Arisaema in so young a plant? Will it have more leaflets and perhaps leaf=let
appendages as it matures?
Incidentally, this species failed to come up until it had had a cold peri=od,
and this is only its second growth period.
OK, you experts, HELP!
