In response to everybody's questions:

Yes, I fully intend to ask for Mr. Yamazaki's approval before making this
official. I just checked the most recent NARGS directory, and he is still
listed. I doubt very seriously if it already has a name in Japan, however.
I think you would agree that a typical mature P. cordata has leaves 4 to =5
inches long, while 'Yamazaki' is 6 to 8 inches long-- quite an obvious
difference. All of the P. cordatas I observed in nurseries in Japan durin=g
my visit in 1995 were of the small form.

It's sort of like the other pinellias, and never persists where I plant i=t.
It comes back reliably here in Zone 5B/6A, but I have to admit I get the
larger size plants from ones I winter over either in pots in the unheated
garage (below freezing) or in baggies in the fridge. It really is best
enjoyed as a pot plant, where you can get up close and personal to enjoy
the neat little inflorescence and its sweet fragrance.

AND!!!!, last but not least, one of my P. cordata 'Yamazaki' plants
actually set seed this summer!!! The first ever for me, and it was only o=n
one inflorescence. Teeny little seeds, and I let them drop in the pot
rather than collect them-- bulbils are a more reliable method of
propagation. I'll let you know when and if they come up.
