Subject: Re: Arisaema ochraceum
Jim,
I had the following A. ochraceum:
3 from J. Amand, Apr. '94
3 from T. Avent, Dec. '95
2 from Paul Christian, Mar. '96
but all have disappeared and are presumed dead. None had flowered.
Tony and Jacques don't list them anymore either. You may have a treasure
there.
While they were growing, they looked as you described and seemed as
unrelated to A. nepenthoides
as I can imagine. Anyway, here are the references:
PLANT NAME: Arisaema ochraceum Schott
TROPICOS #: 0023-01520
PUBLICATION: Bonplandia (Hanover) vii. 27. 1859.
JOUR/BOOK ID: L00861
TROPICOS #: 0023-06500
PUBLICATION: Journal of the Linnean Society, Botany 43: 483. 1916.
JOUR/BOOK ID: L00682
If these contain a reduction to A. nepenthoides, it would have to be in
the 1916 paper, but somehow I doubt it. There must have been a later
revision.
I don't find it in any of the documents we have on-line except the
species list. So, I haven't found a reference that caused A. ochraceum to
be listed as a synonym for A. nepenthoides. I don't know where to look
next.
I sure wish I had made notes when compiling the species list.
