Judging from what I saw in the woods last spring, the local deer have a
great fondness for A. triphyllum.  Huge numbers had been yanked out and
the tops eaten (deer are yankers, not tidy grazers) 

At first glance I read this as 'deer are yankees' - some may be, I =suppose!

I've never heard of deer damaging aroids here in the UK, although they =seem to consume most things. Pheasants, however, dig out Arum tubers, =and I've seen the disturbance caused by wild boar rootling for them in =Spain. Thankfully we only suffer from cats in this garden; big game is =nothing but a menace when combined with horticulture. People who =complain about deer should try Cape buffalo or elephants...then they'd =know what havoc is!
