Some of my mature A. triphyllum are up 3-4 inches, this is about 3
weeks earlier than a normal year, thanks to El Nino. A. dracontium
hasn't sprouted yet but at this rate, it will be up in a week or two. I
had time and a lack of patience today and excavated for the two
non-native Arisaema planted out last year. Unfortunately, A. sikokianum
was a mushy tuber, obviously dead. Only 1 of these was planted out and
I'm sure I have many more in the refrigerator among the other Arisaema
tubers that will get planted outside shortly, as soon as I find time.
A. serratum was also planted outside and I found one tuber that will
have it's nose above ground in a few days. There should be 2 more but I
didn't dig further for fear of injuring them. They were planted fairly
close to sikokianum in a well mulched bed so I don't know why sikokianum
chose to die.
I love this time of year, especially when it's warm (60-70 F.) but
with all the plants blooming so early, what will we have by fall?
Jean Halverson sw Wisconsin--normally 50's, often windy & rainy but this
year lots of warm sun. A short sleeve t-shirt was hot to work in today.
