Hi All,

About time I reported in. Is anyone combining this info to get anything
statistical out of it? Does poor germination equate to difficulty with th=e
particular variety? Or is it a matter of health of the particular seed? I
would think that combining results by variety would tend to largely elimi=nate
the variable of propagation method and individual skills. I know that it'=s
been a long time since I did statistics on anything.

After soaking seeds for two days, I essentially used the method of germin=ation
described by Ellen Hornig---seeds on top of Pro-Mix/chick grit and covere=d
with granite chick grit. 6 inches under part-Gro-Lite florescents. Water =from
the top, with good drainage. With the chick grit I had a little trouble
figuring when the soil was getting too dry, but I managed. If the chick g=rit
stuck to my forefinger when I lifted the finger, it was still wet enough.

I kept 7 seeds of each kind and gave the rest to my daughter who lives a =hour
south of here. Unfortunately she didn't have time to try them, so I will =do
another planting. Maybe I'll try the Deno method this next time, but I ha=ven't
decided. Also, I didn't record the planting date but it was around the e=nd of
January. But here are the results to date:

A. flavum Abbreviatum (McClure) 7/7
A. flavum (Denny) 6/7
A. consanguineum (Herold) 3/7
A. consanguineum (Gouda) 7/7
A. amurense (Denny) 7/7
A. amurense V. Amurense (Gouda) 4/7
A. sazensoo (Gusman) 3/7
A. sikokianum (McClements) 7/7
A. heterophyllum (McClements) 5/7
A. ringens (Lively Diebold) 1/7
A. serratum (Lively diebold) 4/7
A. tortuosum (Wills) 7/7
A. penninsulae AIK 183 (Avent) 5/7

By the way, Tony, what is "A. Penninsulae AIK 183" and where is it shown?

Just to show where we stand now in seasons on this14th of April, none of =the
garden A. Triphyllum poking their heads out yet. Some trillium out but no=t
quite blooming. Pink Ladyslipper starting to shoot up.

Last year I had rust on some of the Triphyllum. If it starts to occur thi=s
year, my understanding is that I should destroy the plant? Does this mean=the
WHOLE plant, corm and all? Yipe!!
