And I'm agonizing about using liquid fertilizer (Peters) on my 2nd year

fertilizer in his Turface watering system. Jim: How dilute?

I think that we're all pretty well agreed that A. elephas has a two-stage
germination, requiring a cold period before any above-ground growth appea=rs.
It also seems to be true for A. thunbergii, both ssp. urashima and ssp.
thunbergii. I've noted it in a few others, including a yet-to-be identifi=ed
species from the garden of Carol Fyler in Massachusetts. (It should be
identified this year).
Re the fertilizer, I use half the minimum recommended strength on the bot=tle.
When in doubt use less! And stay away from osmocote for seedling arisaema=s.
