No, this is where a greater or lesser part of the tuber has gone to a starchy
paste, leaving, perhaps, part of the main growing point plus some 'shoulder'
tissue (where the offsets form) sound.
BTW (i) do all species produce offsets?
(ii) which ones, apart from consanguineum and exappendiculatum,
produce their offsets on stolons?
