but why would anyone want to put an Arisaema in the fridge ?
Hi, Paul,
When I first became interested in Arisaema, I had no info on hardiness
and in zone 5a I assumed many of these orientals, etc., may not be
hardy. I use the fridge to give the young tubers cold treatment if they
need it (on the assumption that it won't hurt them if they don't need
it) so I can replant them in the house after 2-3 months and get 2 or
more growth cycles in one year.
I will rely on other growers experiences in judging which are likely to
be cold hard here is sw Wisconsin and I have sufficient tubers of some
species to test a few others this coming winter. Seed was so hard to
get that I was not going to risk losing any to a harsh winter. Of
course, many of my original tubers were killed when my refrigerator went
on the blink and froze everything solid a few years ago!
In the future, I plan to plant many more of my Arisaema outside, but
will still treat seeds/young tubers the same to get them to blooming
size faster.
Finding Aroid-L and AEG and now getting our own list is the best
part of getting access to e-mail and the internet for me. My thanks to
all of you who have worked so hard to provide the info, seed exchange,
this list and all the websites.

1/2-2 months
