Tamang again

Hi all again,
After my last post I have had a few emails raising the questions of
ordering, and I wanted to post back quickly to correct anything that might
have given a wrong impression.
A couple of you asked me if you should order at all, which worried me. I do
not in any way at all mean to bad mouth a fellow professional, bad form and
not intended.
Tamang is an EXCELLENT source, his quality and integrity are to be cherished
in a field where there are some very shady dealers. He is good but like
others he is subject to what he in turn is supplied with.
I repeat that it is fair to say that some material is wrongly named and most
of what is wrongly named has turned out to be A.intermedium. A.griffithii
is intermedium, A. utile is largely intermedium, A.jacquemontii is all
intermedium. It seems that all of the Indian sources have been sending
A.intermedium instead of griffithii for at least two years. I think that it
was Guy who said that the two species grow intermingled in India. The
tubers looks the same as do the leaves when out-of-flower.
I should have balance the "bad" with a list of what was true and most of it
was. A.consanguineum were all okay and are superb most of the nepenthoides
were true, most of the ostiolatum were true, I may get the next two mixed up
but I think that it was most of the verrucosum were true, few of the utile
were true, all concinnum were consanguineum, but another species (I think
(?)) erubescens was in fact all concinnum. It is possible that he or even me
might have mixed these as UK customs had a good root about in the boxes to
the detriment of the labelling on two packets within the package.
If anyone is considering cancelling or NOT ordering after what I said then
please don't do this, carry on and order, he is a good source and needs the
support. Maybe just don't order any intermedium, in the same way that you
should never order "veal stew" in Greece, because no matter what happens you
will get it somehow, oneday. The analogy is a good one, there are several
synomyms for veal stew, some belonging to a different genus, like beef stew,
vernacular stifado, and rarely a mis-named one like spagetti bolognese (syn
macaroni and.... veal stew)
I digress,
Paul :-))
